An attribute is defined as a the quality, character, or characteristic ascribed to someone. (Webster Dictionary). The attributes of God speak to His character, they help us to answer the questions like, Who is God, What is God like, What kind of God is He? It is impossible for us to fully comprehend who God is, however looking at a few of His attributes can give us a glimpse into His Power, Love, and Wonder.
Forgiving & Merciful
To be forgiven by God means the penalty for our sins has been removed. God’s mercy is shown to us as He gives us repentance and forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
If we confess our own sins, He is faithful and righteous, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. –1 John 1:9
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. – Psalm 103:8
Our Refuge & Help
During times of trouble we can be comforted knowing that God promises to be our refuge.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1
Eternal
God is without beginning or end. God is omnipresent (present everywhere). God is Omniscient (He knows all things). He exists outside of time. He is, He was, He shall be. His Creation is a testament to his eternal nature and power. The name El Olam means “the Everlasting God” or “Eternal God” (Genesis 21:22-34).
And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands” – Heb 10:1
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. – 2 Pet 3:9
Holy
God is pure, perfect, without fault.
There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. – 1 Sam 2:2

Loving
Unconditional and unfailing Love is an attribute of God. Love is at the core of God’s being and character.
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not. – 1 John 3:1
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God. 8 He that loves not knows not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. – 1 John 4:7-10
Compassionate & Gracious
God looks down on us as his beloved sons and daughters. He wants the very best for us.

Sovereign & Just
God is the ultimate judge and authority over all living things. His power, wisdom and might reign over all.
The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom rules over all. – Psalm 103:19
Faithful & Righteous
God is faithful to keep His promises to us. He will never leave or forsake us.
The Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keeps covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; – Deuteronomy 7:9
