Bible and a mug

Meditating on God’s word is a tool we can use to draw closer to Him and seek to understand His truths on a deeper level.

“I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.” –Psalm 77:12

“…that I might meditate in thy word” –Psalm 119:148

What is Biblical Meditation?

Biblical meditation is thinking and pondering on God’s Word.  Biblical meditation is not repeated mantras, mind-emptying, or mere “mindfulness”. It is a thoughtful and purposeful act that can be done anywhere or any time. It is focused, prayerful and reflective time spent actively filling our minds with God’s Word.

Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy loving kindnesses; for they have been ever of old. – Psalm 25:4-6

How to Fill your Mind With God’s Word

  • Read a scripture or passage in the Bible and take time to think deeply about what it means
  • Go outside and look around taking in the wonders of God’s creation and how His glory and majesty is revealed.
  • Remember all the blessings He has poured out to you and your family and give thanks.
  • Recall the times God has guided and helped you through struggles in your life.
  • Listen to some relaxing music and pick out a passage from Psalms to read.
