Joy Comes in the Morning / Author: Cynthia Greene
“… but joy cometh in the morning.” –Psalm 30:5
In the midst of trials and hardship, how does “Joy come in the morning”? Does it mean that our trials will only last for 12 hours and then by the morning we will have Joy? No, this scripture is saying that our sorrows will not last forever, they will eventually come to an end and that we can look forward to the joy that is coming.
Christ set an example for us of focusing on the ultimate joy of God’s Kingdom in the midst of great sorrow. In Hebrews it says:
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” –Hebrews 12:2
As Christ was experiencing the pain and agony on the cross, He was focused on “the Joy that was set before Him”. He was focused on the outcome of His sacrifice which was the forgiveness of our sins, His resurrection to eternal life (as the First Fruit), and that after His death He would be able to send back the Holy Spirit to dwell in us.
We, too. can experience Joy in the midst of our trials and hardships, but it is only possible because of our relationship with God and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you; continue you in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in His love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. –John 15:9-11
What a gift the Fruit of Joy is to us.
“But let all who put their trust in You rejoice; let them always shout for joy because You defend them. And let those who love Your name exult in you.” –Psalm 5:11
