Goodness

January 25, 20230 commentsAuthor Cynthia Greene

“Oh how great is thy goodness, which though has laid up for them that fear thee…” –Psalm 31:19

Many scriptures in Psalms show us that Goodness of God is a gift for those that fear and worship God.  As New Covenant Christians, Goodness is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.   As that fruit manifests itself in our lives God wants us to share and show Goodness to others.

How Do We Put Into Practice the Goodness of God?

Praise God for His Goodness – through singing, praying, sharing faith stories with others, poetry, art, or music.

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” –Psalm 107:8

Proclaim His Deeds – Share God’s good works and deeds with others in writing and speaking.  Be ready to give an answer for the hope you have.

Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people”. –Psalm 96:3

“They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;”Psalm 145:11

Pray and ask for God’s Goodness.  Pray that God will develop the Fruit of Goodness in your life.

Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.” –2 Thessalonians 1:11

“For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” –Psalm 107:9

Pray to See God’s Goodness Around You.  God’s goodness is visible in the seen and unseen things.  For example, when God answers our prayers in ways we didn’t expect, when we are protected from things that could have happened, or when God puts people or circumstances in our path for our good.  God’s goodness is all around in the wonders of God’s Creation. We can pray to ask God to make us more aware to see His goodness so that we can praise Him.

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trust in him.” –Psalm 34:8

Be Thankful For His Goodness.  Express thankfulness in thoughts and words.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ..” –Ephesians 1:3

“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord..”  –1 Corinthians 1:9

“The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.”  Psalm 145:9

Practice Goodness.   Pray for opportunities to show goodness to others. When we put aside our selfish concerns and instead shift our focus on how we can help and serve others, God can make us more aware of opportunities to practice goodness.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” –Matthew 5:16

Record God’s Goodness.  Keeping a record (writing it down) of the Goodness God has done for us in our lives can be helpful to review during difficult times.

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”  –Psalm 100:4
