Who Are You? /Author: Cynthia Greene
We have an enemy that works 24/7 to try to deceive us about who we are. Often we look to careers, personality tests, social media messaging, and what others think or say about us to give us our identity. These can all lead to false beliefs about who we are.
The truth about who we are comes from reading scripture. Below are some scriptures about who God says we are:
God Says | Scripture | I Am…. |
New Creation | 2 Cor 5:17 | I have been given a new life. The old things are gone and I have been made new! |
Child of God | John 1:12 | I have been begotten into God’s family. |
Temple of the Spirit | 1 Cor 3:16 | I have God’s spirit dwelling in me. |
Chosen | Eph. 1:4 | I am chosen by God to be His child and part of His family. |
Forgiven | 1 John 1:9 | My sins are forgiven as I confess my sins. |
Loved | John 15:9 | I am loved by God. |
Unique | Psalm 139:13-14 | I am fearfully and wonderfully made. |
Never Alone | Mat. 28:20 | I am never alone because God is always with me. |
Work of Art | Eph. 2:10 | I am God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do works. |
Access to Peace | Phil 4:7 | I can experience the peace of Jesus Christ. |
We are God’s creation, made in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made. Through Him we have our identity. He created us, loves us, and sent His son to die for our sins so that we could be part of His Eternal Family. We belong to God and each of us was created with unique purpose, gifts and talents to share with others.
- “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
- “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Understanding and believing the truth of who we are will give us peace, joy and hope.
