Make Morning Prayer a Habit

Make Morning Prayer a Habit / Author: Cynthia Greene

The alarm rings and we are off and running through our day. Our to-do lists are long, activities keep us busy, and we encounter many distractions before the end of the day. Then when we place our head on the pillow we say a quick prayer before falling asleep.

How would your day be different if you made a habit of praying to God first thing in the morning?

The Psalmist David said:

In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my prayers before You and will look up.” (Psalm 5:3)

Jesus Christ set an example for us and scripture says:

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” (Mark 1:35)

Other scriptures to ponder:

“But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.” (Psalm 39:6)

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.” (Prov 8:17)

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” (Psalm 143:8)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Phil 4:6)

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Mat. 6:6)

“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” (Ps. 55:17)

Praying in the Morning

  • A time to focus on God and His word before other distractions take over.
  • An opportunity to turn our worries and cares over to God. (Phil 4:6-7)
  • Time spent giving thanks and praising God will lift our spirits.
  • Starting your morning off with prayer can bring you spiritual strength and clarity of thought to help you face the challenges that the day will bring.
  • A time to put on the Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) so you can face the spiritual assaults that will come.
  • Asking God for His inspiration, guidance and direction for the day ahead.
  • Start your day off with hope. “I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.” (Psalm 119:147)

Consider making morning prayer part of your daily habit and see what a difference it makes.
