Praying for the Broken-Hearted
Praying for the Broken-Hearted by Kerri White & Cynthia Greene
When those around us are broken-hearted and hurting, it can feel overwhelming to know how to pray or what words to say. As we encounter those who are walking through trials and hardships, we can offer them something real and powerful—our prayers.
- Pray for Peace in the Midst of the Pain
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” – Isaiah 26:3
Ask God to quiet their negative and anxious thoughts, soother their broken hearts, and till their homes with God’s unshakable peace.
- Pray for the Softening of Hearts and Reconciliation
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.” – Ezekiel 36:26
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” – 2 Corinthians 5:18
Pray for humility, forgiveness and open doors in God’s timing and within his plan.
- Pray Against Bitterness and Hopelessness
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9
“See to it that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” – Hebrews 12:15
Pray that God will guard their hearts from resentment and despair. Pray that God will pour into them His hope, love and peace.
- Pray That We and Others Don’t Stand in Judgement
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged… Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” – Matthew 7:1,3
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” – Romans 15:7
Pray that we, and others within the body of Christ, do not stand in judgement of situations others are facing, but instead show love, compassion and grace to those who are going through difficult trials.
We serve a God of love, restoration and peace. As we lift up others who are hurting in pain, keep in mind God’s promises that He will wipe away every tear, bring restoration, and restore His peace.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”– Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
