Gratitude
Gratitude / Author: Cynthia Greene
“What if you woke up today and only had the things you thanked God for yesterday?
This question should be a reminder how often we take for granted God’s blessings in our lives. There is always something to be thankful for, even in difficult and challenging situations.
Gratitude Points Us to God, our Provider
When you intentionally are keeping your eyes open for God’s blessings in your life,
blessings come more readily and often to our attention. This attentiveness to how God is actively in our daily lives and blessing us throughout our day points us to the passage that says:
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:19
Gratitude Brings Praise
When we acknowledge and take notice of God’s blessings, it gives us reason to rejoice.
“This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” –Psalm 118:24
“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” –Psalm 69:30
Gratitude Brings Peace
Philippians 4:6-7 tells us that prayer and thankfulness are precursors for receiving the “peace that passes all understanding”. Our faith and hope in God increases as we become more aware of all that He does for us each day.
Gratitude Brings Contentment
Focusing on our blessings, instead of the things we think we need, helps us to be content in our lives.
“Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” –Ephesians 5:20
