Created to Do Good Works by Cynthia Greene
Words alone are not enough to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We were created to serve others and reflect God’s character through our Good Works. This is how we shine our light before others.
- “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” (Ephesians 2:10)
- “Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord” shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but who does the will of My Father in heaven…” (Matthew 7:21-23)
- ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ (Matthew 25:40)
- “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14)
What defines “Good Works”? They are those actions that are driven by faith, align with Godly principles, and are done to honor God and bring glory to Him. Doing good works is a way we reflect and show the Love of God to others.
- I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. (Revelation 2:19)
- He who does the will of God abides forever. (I John 2:17)
- Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
In James 2:17, it says, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” True faith leads to good works. Doing Good Works is an expression of our faith and an expression of God’s Love in us. It’s not about doing good to earn salvation but rather responding to God’s Love in us by living out our faith in practical ways. Our works are to bring glory to Him not to bring glory or attention to ourselves.
The Good Works we do here on earth are how we lay-up treasures in heaven. “That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” (1 Timothy 6:18-19)
Questions to Ponder:
- Who can you serve now?
- What can I do today to make a positive difference in someone’s life?
- How can I serve others with my skills, knowledge, or time?
- What is one small act of kindness I can offer right now?
- What positive impact can I make within my community?
- Lord, how can I serve you and others with the gifts and talents You have given me?
- Lord, help me to love others as you have loved me, and to offer my time and resources to those in need.
- God, show me how I can be a source of light and hope to those around me.
- God, teach me to do good works in a way that shows honor and glory to you.

Well said, and something we need to hear more. It’s a blessing when God seems to open up more opportunities for good works when we’re asking Him to and looking for them.
